Navaratri Series Day 9: Matrika Devi Chamundi / Sivadhuti Painting

Chāmundi is the Shakti of Amma Ādi Parāshakti. While other Māthrikas are considered as the Shaktis (powers) of male divinities and resemble them in appearance, Chāmundi is the only Māthrika who is a Shakti of the great Goddess Ādi Parāshakti.

 

She is known by other names like Chāmunda, Chāmundeshwari or Charchika. The name Chāmunda is a combination of Chanda and Munda, two demons whom She killed. She is closely associated with Kāli, another fierce aspect of Pārvati.
