✨PĀRVATĪ✨

🎶shātōdhari shankari cāmundēshvari candrakalādhari tāyē gaurī🎶
Navaratri series – 8

Pārvatī Devi is the embodiment of Shakti, and the consort of Lord Shiva. She has countless number of forms, each unique in its own way, but I have painted Parvati Devi here inspired by Her Meenakshi form, at Madurai. 🙏🏼

Pārvatī Devi is usually shown in Her benevolent form, the calm and serene Gaurī, but also is popular in Her fierce and terrifying forms such as Durga and Kali. ✨

The pose I have painted Her in this painting is inspired by a line from the one of my favourite songs, “Māthe Malayadhvaja” composed by Shri Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar, which describes Her as the “slender-waisted one” and “the one who adorns a crescent moon on Her crown”. 🪷

In my painting, Pārvatī Devi has emerald green skin, four arms, two which hold Her Pāsham and Ankusham and the other two which hold the Abhaya and Varada Mudras, which are basically the mudras which we use to portray Pārvatī Devi in dance, a slender-waist as glorified in the song, and a crescent moon on Her crown (again, from the song) and wears a bright red garment, complementing Her beautiful green colour. 💚

Lakshmi Devi, Saraswati Devi and Pārvatī Devi together form the Tridevi, the divine trio of Shāktism, and also the end of this series. We have one more painting left in this very-much-delayed Navaratri series, and so far, I’ve enjoyed painting Pārvatī Devi the most. It’s the most self-satisfactory painting I’ve done in quite some time. Hope I can wrap up this series real soon!😄

Done using acrylic paint on cold pressed watercolor sheets. 🎨
