DURGA
Navaratri 2022
‘Nava Shaktis’ Painting Series
Day: 1
Devi: Durga

The word “Durga” literally means ‘invincible’ or ‘impassable’. Maa Durga is hence, the ‘Undefeatable Goddess’. She unleashes Her divine wrath against the evil for the liberation of Her oppressed devotees. ‘Durga Devi’ in this series represents the triumph of good over evil. She is often related to Mahishasuramardhini. She has 8 arms (ashtabhuja) holding various weapons such as the sword, shield, bow and arrow, Shanku-Chakra and the trident. Her skin is of the colour of Kumkum (red) . Durga has various aspects, but I have painted Devi here based on a dance pose with some features of Mahishasuramardhini. Starting this year’s Navaratri series with the auspicious Durga, who symbolises the victory of good over evil.

Done using Acrylic paint on Watercolor sheet.
