Yet another less known story from Indian Mythologies. The Story of Lord Shiva’s Daughter.

“Did you know that Lord Shiva and Parvati Devi had a daughter?”  YES – Ashoka Sundari. The story goes on like this.

Once Goddess Parvathi asked Lord Shiva to take her to the most beautiful garden in the world. Lord Shiva took her to the beautiful Nandanvana, where She saw the wish-fulfilling tree “Kalpavriksha”. Since both her sons Ganesha and Karthikeya are grown up, she wished for a daughter to care for. Kalpavriksha granted Her the boon, and Ashoka Sundari was born to Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati Devi.

Ashoka Sundari was destined to marry Nahusha, the one equal to Indra. She has a son Yayati and 100 daughters. Yayati was the ancestor of Pandavas and the Kauravas. This story is recorded in the Padma Purana and not known to many.
