✨KOLLUR MOOKAMBIKA✨

Navaratri 2023- Nava Kshetra Nivasinis Painting Series-9♥️

Day 9 : Mookambika Devi of Kollur🙏🏻

Concluding my Navaratri 2023 – ‘Nava Kshetra Nivasinis’ Painting Series with Kollur Mookambika Devi. Supreme Mother Adi Parashakti is worshipped as Mookambika Devi at Kollur Mookambika Temple in Karnataka. She is in the form of Tridevi-venerated as Saraswati Devi in the morning, Lakshmi Devi at noon, and Parvati Devi during the evening at Kollur.

According to legends, combined energies of the Tridevis culminated into Goddess Mookambika to defeat the demon Mookasura, who subjected the three worlds to chaos after receiving a boon from Lord Shiva to be killed by only a woman.

Goddess Mookambika is worshipped in the form of Jyothirlinga that incorporates both Shiva (Trimurthi) on the left side and Shakti (Tridevi) on right side demarcated by a golden rekha (line). Shri Adi Shankaracharya then installed an idol of Mookambika above the Linga. It is believed that he scripted the hymns “Soundarya Lahari” at the Mookambika Temple.

Mookambika temple dates back to around 800 A.D. and it is situated on the bank of river Souparnika and rests against the backdrop of Kodachadri hills.
