KANCHI KAMAKSHI

Navaratri 2023- Nava Kshetra Nivasinis Painting Series-2♥️

Day 2 : Kamakshi Amman of Kancheepuram🙏🏻

A visit to the holy town of Kancheepuram in Tamilnadu is incomplete without a darshan of Kamakshi Amman, interestingly the only Parvati Devi temple in this Mokshapuri which houses more than a hundred temples.

Goddess Kamakshi, said to have done penance at Kanchi under a mango tree to marry Lord Ekambareshwarar, is seated in the padmasana posture resembling a Lotus, and signifies peace and prosperity. She holds a Sugarcane bow in Her left arm and the Panchabaana (five flower-arrows) and Parrot in Her right, in addition to Pasha-Ankusha on Her upper two arms. She also adorns the crescent moon on Her forehead. Sri Adi Sankaracharya installed the Srichakram in front of the deity which holds the power of Sri Kamakshi Devi.

Kamakshi Amman temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. The temple is known as Nabisthana-Ottiyana peetham (navel part of Sathi Devi’s body is believed to have fallen here).

Done using Acrylic paint on watercolor sheet♥️
